Standard Insurance Does Not cover Flood Damage

Standard homeowners and renters insurance does not cover flood damage. Flood coverage, however, is available in the form of a separate policy both from the National Flood Insurance Program – and from a few private insurers.

Flooding is a coast to coast threat

Be aware of flood hazards no matter where you live, but especially if you are in low-lying areas, near water, behind a levee or downstream from a dam.

Don’t Buy A Teen His Own Car

Did You Know?
It’s usually cheaper not to add a third car when you’re adding a teen driver to a two-parent, two-car family.   The reason is that insurers rightly assume the kid will drive less without his own car. (Even without a third car the average annual premium goes up 58% with a teen added, according to a recent study.)

Consider uninsured motorist coverage

When purchasing auto insurance, consider getting uninsured motorist coverage.  This protects you and family members living with you should you be hit by a negligent driver who is uninsured or “underinsured,” even if you’re walking, bicycling or skateboarding at the time.

According to the Insurance Research Council, at least 16% of drivers, and about a quarter of those in New Mexico, Mississippi, Alabama, Oklahoma and Florida, are uninsured.
